Common Questions
Everything you want to know before booking — or before recommending us to someone else.
What Is Stretchology?
What is stretchology?
An infused art of practitioner-assisted stretching, acupressure, and reflexology — delivered as a single integrated session.
Is stretchology a real thing?
Yes. Knot Me is the first and only studio to offer Stretchology services in Michigan. It is a relatively new concept, but it is formatted as a serious healing practice designed to keep the body at its optimal health.
How is this different from other stretch studios?
We focus not just on flexibility, but on actually healing the body as a whole — improving your quality of life from the inside out. Every client receives a personalized follow-up after their session based on what was actually worked on that day. Most studios end at the door. We continue the work between sessions.
Would you consider this a luxury or a necessity?
Necessity. We improve your overall health. Mobility is not a luxury — it is necessary to navigate through life.
How We Compare
Is this similar to a massage?
No. You'll experience a similar sense of release, but we specialize in myofascial release and full-body stretching — all while you remain completely clothed. Many clients say they feel taller when they get off the table.
Is this physical therapy?
No. Physical therapy is typically prescribed by a doctor and often focuses solely on the injured area using equipment. We take preventative and restorative measures for the entire body — no equipment involved.
Is this yoga?
No. Both involve stretching, but yoga is a personalized inward practice emphasizing breath and meditation. At Knot Me, we do all the work while you receive a full-body stretch. It's practitioner-assisted — incorporating both dynamic and static stretching in one session.
How does this compare to chiropractic care?
Both support good spinal health and mobility. Stretching specifically strengthens the muscles around the joints, which helps keep the body in alignment longer between chiropractic adjustments.
Is this complementary to other services?
Yes — we work well alongside physical therapy, massage, and chiropractic care.
Is this exercising or relaxation?
Both. You'll receive a full-body stretch comparable to a yoga class, and you'll feel completely relaxed once the reflexology portion of the session is complete.
Why can't I just stretch myself?
Practitioner-assisted stretching allows you to go further than you would on your own. The resistance, positioning, and feedback from a trained practitioner produces results that solo stretching typically cannot.
Conditions We Help With
Does this help with back pain?
Yes — stretching loosens tightness around the spine, which reduces tension in the back overall.
Will this help with sciatica?
Yes. The piriformis muscle — where the sciatic nerve lives — will begin to loosen over time, relieving pressure on the nerve. Some clients find instant relief; others see full resolution after several sessions.
Learn more about sciatica relief →I suffer from migraines. Will treatment help?
Reflexology aids in relieving headaches and migraines. The temporal lobes are released through foot and hand manipulation, which provides relief from chronic migraines.
Migraine and headache relief →My body has been aching and chronically tight. Can stretchology help?
Yes. Our treatments are designed to increase flexibility, loosen stiff joints and muscles, increase range of motion, and leave you feeling relaxed.
I threw my back out. Will treatment help?
After throwing out your back, rest for one to three days. After that, we can provide relief by improving blood flow and reducing stiffness in the injured muscles.
Will this help with MS?
We can help. Knot Me lengthens the muscles to reduce tightness and spasticity. With knots removed, clients with MS typically find they can move around with greater ease.
I suffer from restless leg syndrome (RLS). Will treatment help?
Yes — it can help stop RLS symptoms and improve sleep quality.
I have a pinched nerve. Will treatment help?
Yes. We can relieve tension and pressure in a specific area. This would be discussed during your assessment so your practitioner knows not to stretch too deeply in that area, which could aggravate the nerve.
Will this help with scoliosis?
We cannot correct scoliosis, but we provide meaningful relief by releasing tension in the muscles surrounding the spine. This promotes healthy blood flow, keeps the joints lubricated, and allows the spine to feel more fluid.
Will this help with cerebral palsy?
We aid in stretching and lengthening the muscles. Treatment at an early stage can reduce the risk of deformities and improve overall mobility.
Will this help with vertigo?
We approach vertigo cautiously — no sudden or jerking movements. Neck and spinal treatments are beneficial for managing the sudden onset of dizziness.
I don't sleep well. Will treatment help?
Yes. We use stretching and reflexology to promote deeper rest. The entire nervous system connects through your hands and feet, and reflexology has a calming effect that brings the body to a relaxed state.
Should I come in while pregnant?
Yes — but please disclose before your session so we can treat you appropriately. Stretching is beneficial for alleviating pregnancy discomfort. With reflexology, certain areas must be avoided during pregnancy.
I sit all day. Would this benefit me?
Absolutely. Prolonged sitting keeps the hip flexors shortened, compresses the lower back, and has measurable long-term health effects. Our treatments enhance agility and restore the body's physical function.
Hip flexor and tightness relief →I stand all day. Would this benefit me?
Yes. Standing for long periods contributes to significant back fatigue that can develop into chronic lower back pain over time.
I golf. Will this help my swing?
Yes. We have treatment protocols that open the entire upper body — giving way to a more flexible rotator cuff and wider range of motion, which produces a smoother swing with less stiffness afterward.
Reflexology
Can reflexology hurt?
Like stretching, you may feel some discomfort — especially in areas with significant tension. That discomfort is temporary and becomes more tolerable as knots are released. You are always in control. Your practitioner will never take you beyond your level of comfort.
What are knots?
A knot is a hard, sensitive area within the muscle where fibers have tightened — creating tension that causes pain and tenderness. These are the focal points of our work.
Will this help relieve knots?
Yes — that's exactly why the name exists. We remove knots from the body through targeted pressure release.
Do I have to have both stretching and reflexology, or can I choose?
Knot Me integrates both modalities, but if you prefer to focus on one over the other, we can gear your individual sessions to your specific needs.
Your First Visit
Do you diagnose patients?
No. We assess you and administer your session based on your personal goals. We help you reach those goals — but we never diagnose.
How am I supposed to dress?
Wear something comfortable with no restrictive clothing or excess jewelry.
Do I have to be strapped down?
No. We do offer strapping options to help isolate muscle groups for a more effective stretch, but if you're not comfortable with this, it is not mandatory — though it is encouraged for best results.
Your Sessions
How should I breathe while being stretched?
Inhale before each stretch, then exhale as the stretch deepens.
Can stretching hurt?
Some discomfort is part of the process, but you should not experience pain during any treatment. Staying in constant communication with your practitioner prevents pain from occurring.
Will I experience pain during treatments?
Every body is different. Discomfort is welcomed; pain is not. Stay in communication with your practitioner throughout.
How do you know when you've gone too far?
Anything new produces some discomfort. If the intensity doesn't subside within a given stretch, you've gone too far. Discomfort is welcome. Pain is not.
Is treatment safe?
Yes. Always stay in communication with your practitioner — they are there to walk you through the entire process.
Can all age groups benefit?
Yes. We welcome all ages. It's best to start young and maintain throughout life, and we have sessions designed for a wide range of fitness levels and diagnoses.
Recovery & Results
Why do I feel sore a day or two later?
If this is new to you, expect some soreness in the days following your first sessions. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) typically sets in two days after a session. Drinking water immediately after and in the following days helps with recovery.
Why is it recommended to drink water after a session?
Water helps release toxins from the body, aids muscle recovery, and helps prevent delayed onset muscle soreness.
Will treatment improve my range of motion?
Yes. We help keep muscles flexible, strong, and healthy — loosening joints and increasing their range of motion over time.
Over time, will this increase flexibility or just blood flow?
Both. Consistency increases range of motion and generates healthy blood circulation throughout the body.
Will inactivity between treatments make me stiff again?
Possibly. The body is programmed through repetition and builds muscle memory with consistency. If you have long breaks between sessions, your body is likely to revert toward its original state. Consistent scheduling produces lasting results.
Will my results be permanent?
That depends on you. The more consistent you are, the more your body adapts and retains the gains. Inconsistency will cause the body to revert, and you'll need to rebuild from the beginning.
Does stretching build strength?
Not directly. But it lengthens muscle tissue and increases flexibility, which can enhance your workouts and help you gain strength more effectively.
Why do I need flexibility?
Flexibility prevents injury, improves posture, and enhances range of motion — making everyday tasks, large and small, significantly easier to execute.
What does this service do for the body as a whole?
It keeps your body limber, strong, and healthy. Most clients sleep better, have more endurance, move more freely, and maintain more energy throughout the day.
Who Should Come
If I live an active lifestyle, do I really need this?
Yes. An active lifestyle doesn't automatically guarantee flexibility or an optimal range of motion. We provide individualized treatment that enhances performance and allows you to operate at your full potential.
I have a sedentary lifestyle. How will this benefit me?
A sedentary lifestyle raises long-term health risks. Our treatments rejuvenate the body, restore movement, and make you feel better overall. We've been called the fountain of youth.
Practical Questions
Is this service covered by insurance?
We do not bill insurance directly. However, many clients use FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account) cards to pay for sessions. We accept FSA and HSA cards directly at booking — in most cases it's as simple as using your card at checkout.
Learn more about FSA / HSA →Is this worshiping gods?
No — this is simply taking care of the only body you were given. Self-care is the primary focus.
